Sakata means bullock cart and Bhanjana sthali means the place of elimination, thus this place is associated with the celebrated pastime of killing the demon Shakatasura by baby Krishna Shakatasura was a loyal servant of Kansa and with his consent he came to Gokul to kill infant Krishna. On Krishna’s first birthday there was a huge celebration in Nand Bhavan. After celebration, Maa Yashoda laid Krishna into a cradle under a large and heavy cart and went away to attend her guests. The demon Shakatasura with his secret powers entered into the cart with the intention of crushing the infant Krishna. Suddenly baby Krishna got up due to hunger and with the desire to drink mother’s milk he kicked the cart. With his slight kick, the cart sprung into the air and fell down with a crash thus killing the demon Shakatasura.
