This temple is located close to the Keshi Ghat. It’s believed that, thousands of years ago there was a Vaishnava Brahmin named Shri Haridas ji Maharaj. He used to stay and meditate near Vamshi Vat on the bank of river Yamuna. One night Lord Jagannath came to his dream and revealed his desire to be worshipped in Vrindavan and ordered him to go to Jagannath Puri and get the old idols of Lord Jagannath, Subhadra and Balram those were to be replaced that very year before rath Yatra. He immediately headed for Puri along with his disciples on foot. He reached four days prior to the rath Yatra and met the priests of the temple and told his desire to take back the old deities of Lord Jagannath to Vrindavan for worshipping as per the orders of Lord Jagannath himself. The priest denied him and sent him to the King Pratap Rudra who was the in-charge of the temple. The King also denied him saying that, as per the rituals the old deities are to be immersed in the sea. Unable to have the deities of Lord Jagannath Sri Haridas went to the sea shore and decided to meditate and fast until death. That night Lord Jagannath appeared in the King’s dream and ordered him to give away the old deities to Haridas as it’s his own wish to be worshipped in Vrindavan. After waking up, king called for Haridas and granted him the old deities of Lord Jagannath. Then Haridas brought the deities of Lord Jagannath, Balram and Subhadra on a chariot to Vrindavan along with his disciples and built a temple on this place where he dreamt of Lord Jagannath and installed the deities in this temple on the banks of river Yamuna.
