Davanala means forest fire . Thus it is closely related to the pastime of Lord Krishna when he extinguished the destructive forest fire. It lies to the east of Kaliya Ghat .The legend behind its existence is that; the day when Krishna subdued the poisonous serpent at Kaliya Ghat, the Gopas (cowherd boys) could not return back to their homes at Chhatikara because at the time when they were about to go, it was already dark. The servants of Kansa conspiring to kill Krishna set fire to the surrounding forests where Krishna was resting along with his friends near the bank of river Yamuna. Flames of this devastating fire were spreading at a very fast pace across the forest. Knowing this Krishna told everyone to close their eyes and once everyone had closed the eyes, he swallowed that destructive forest fire in a moment as if it was cold water. The lake where this pastime took place is known as Davanala Kund and after putting off this forest fire he rested at a place now known as Vishram Kund.
